Blood Merdian is widely considered to be Cormac McCarthy’s most important work and it is often included on the short list of greatest American novels. I am a software developer, so I will spare you my detailed thoughts on a 40 year old classic.
The story centers on a gang of killers, roving around and killing everyone they come across, and being killed in turn. The story is brutal and uncomfortable, and the dense, challenging prose makes the reading experience even more uncomfortable. It is compelling and masterful and I am glad I read it, but I am not sure I will ever read it again. Keep a dictionary close by if you dive in.
