Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García, Francesc Miralles

Review: 1 / 5

Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life is a very shallow book. Hefty padding pushes the page count to ~200 but that includes a bunch of pages devoted to descriptions and illustrations of yoga and tai chi exercises. Mostly, the book is a bunch of brief descriptions of work from others and some quotes from interviews the authors conducted with very old residents of a small town on the island of Okinawa. There is very little of value here and the authors’ poor summary of Jiro Dreams of Sushi, a documentary I love, makes me suspect the quality of their summaries of the other work they summarize in the book that I am not familiar with.
